Rituals and customs part 1

The Rough Nights

The term “between the years” usually refers to the days between Christmas and New Year’s Eve. But it is precisely during this time that the so-called rough nights fall – 12 particularly mystical nights in our annual cycle of herbs. The Rauhnächte – also known as Inner Nights, Bell Nights or Unternights – begin at Christmas (December 25) and last twelve nights, until January 6. Depending on the region, the Raunächte can also start on December 21 (St. Thomas’ night / winter solstice). 12 magical nights that invite us to reflect on the old year, to close and let go and give us a glimpse of what may come in the new year.
There are many rituals and customs surrounding the Rauhnächte. In the past, these nights were also called smoke nights. The ritual of burning incense was practiced long before Christianity. Evil spirits were driven away and good spirits welcomed, and houses were cleansed by burning incense. Our incense rituals involve taking a few minutes for yourself every day. Set up an incense bowl and deliberately place incense on a charcoal. Then you watch as the smoke dissipates, all negativity disappears with it and something new and positive emerges. You can also formulate wishes for the coming year. We at the Stearawirts Hauserei are absolute smoking fans – and not just during the smoking nights. Smoke is always going up somewhere!
You can also book seminars or afternoons with us where you will be taught how to bind your own herb bunches for incense, put together incense or simply learn how and when to burn incense. So then…. Good SMOKE 🙂
